In the 1960s and 1970s major oil companies like Esso / Exxon, Mobil, Shell and Arco used tank lining to extend the useful life of their in service steel underground storage tanks. In the later 1980s and into the later 1990s major oil refiners and oil distributors across the United States called on the tank lining professionals at AmTech to help meet the requirements of the USEPA and state environmental agencies for UST corrosion protection using quality AmTech® and Armor Shield® lining products. The Federal government enacted CFR 280 in late 1988, which addressed steel UST corrosion and the accepted methods for protecting in ground steel tanks from corrosion failure. The standards of API 1631 and NLPA 631 were cited as approved and acceptable interior tank lining and repair methods. AmTech Tank Lining and AmTech Tank Repair processes meet or exceed all industry standards. As aboveground welded, riveted and bolted steel tanks storing petroleum, chemical and water products age, both chemical and physical interactions of stored material and containment can cause serious degradation to the steel. In addition, steel tank exteriors, unless coated properly for protection, will oxidize, corrode and eventually permeate and threaten the overall structural integrity of the tank. With the growth of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) vessels used in water and wastewater treatment facilities, chemical plants and petroleum storage situations, the need for repair and maintenance services has increased four fold in the last two decades. Concrete tank and vessel waterproofing systems have evolved greatly over the last ten years. Topical coatings for waterproofing can now be supplemented or replaced with crystalline products which when properly applied will embed and grow throughout the concrete structure and offer resistance to water permeation, even at extreme pressures. These crystalline processes are potable water safe and do not wear out or weaken.
